Good Friday
On Good Friday, Jesus of Nazereth carried the torture device up a hill on his back like a beast of burden. He was flogged, spat on, berated, nailed to the cross through his wrists and feet, and the cross was raised so all could see his suffering. He died a very human death wearing a crown of thorns and, more than any person before or since, changed the course of history as he became immortal.
Today we start out with chemical abortion drugs…
Supreme Court appears to support F.D.A. authorizing chemical abortion
The justices seem torn over whether the F.D.A. can continue to expand the use of these drugs, which are now putting more and more women in the hospital — far more than are hospitalized with Covid vaccinations, we might add.
And we move on to the money …
Tick tock: PFD deadline approaches
Some 572,283 people have filed for their Permanent Fund dividends (at this writing) of the approximately 732,000 Alaska residents. This is the final weekend to get your application in. The online link is here for those who can file electronically. Deadline is 11:59 p.m. Sunday, March 31.
Check your application status at "myPFD".

Irony alert: Tongass, a no-cut zone, to provide the Christmas tree for U.S. Capitol
One lousy tree, and D.C. gets it, after the Democrats destroyed the timber industry in Southeast Alaska. Can we petition to object to such a travesty? (Can see the headlines now: Scrooge Alaska withholds Christmas from Congress.)
Peltola votes against stopping ‘green’ fraud and corruption slush fund
This set of pork spending was part of the misnamed Inflation Reduction Act, and it’s a pile of money for Democrats to play with climate change projects that are actually partisan in nature.
Washington Gov. Inslee signs even more laws banning guns
This is incrementalism. The Democrats just take one little right away at a time. Which ones this time?
Passings: Sen. Joe Lieberman, skipped over by McCain as 2008 running mate in favor of Alaska’s Gov. Sarah Palin
He was a close friend of McCain, but McCain was convinced by his advisers to pick Sarah Palin as his running mate. Lieberman was a pretty decent guy, in general, although he was committed to abortion on demand.
Fairbanks School Board president apologizes to Interior legislators
Brandy Harty said she misspoke. She did not apologize to all whom she offended, and her apology was panned by some critics. But she did issue a letter that had the word “apologize” in it.
Interior delegation writes: Fairbanks school board President Brandy Harty should step down
Update: Last night’s special meeting of the Fairbanks North Star School Board gave the community an opportunity to testify about President Harty, who chose to not be at the meeting. The testimony was split, and several of the people in the room who wanted to express themselves did not have a chance, due to time running out.
The board went into executive session to discuss Harty’s persistently weird behavior, but when it came out of executive session, it went into recess and did not take a vote on the question of removing Harty for her crazy outbursts, including the one in which she accused lawmakers of a felony.
In the audience during the meeting, before executive session, sat Sen. Robert Myers, one of the persons Harty had accused of a felony. He just sat there, stoically watching the proceedings.

Breakthrough for Bronson: U.S. Sen. Dan Sullivan endorses him for mayor
The momentum is definitely building his way.
Rock the vote
Poll: Parents want schools focused on basics, not critical race theory
But Democrats are more in favor of teaching CRT.

Josh Kraushaar of Fox News Radio: “I reached out to every current Republican lawmaker who has refused to commit to Trump in the general election. Sens. Susan Collins (Maine) Mitt Romney (Utah), Todd Young (Indiana), Bill Cassidy (Louisiana) and Lisa Murkowski (Alaska) all said the same: they’ve not heard from Biden.”
Question of the week
This day in history
March 29, 1867 – Russian Ambassador to the U.S. Edouard de Stoeckl appeared at U.S. Secretary of State William H. Seward’s home to inform him that the Czar had wired approval of a treaty for the American purchase of Alaska. He was known as a witty and affable man.
