Drone buzzing around in Northern Edge
And First Lady Jill Biden will be coming through Bethel on Wednesday
Good morning from Somewhere in Alaska!
Spotted: Northern Edge exercises have brought a drone to Alaska
Look, it’s a bird … It’s a plane … but that’s not an F-15. That is an unmanned war aircraft taking part in Northern Edge. Very edgy, U.S. Navy.
Jill Biden incoming
Before Northern Edge ends on Thursday, First Lady Jill Biden will visit Bethel on Wednesday to promote federal infrastructure broadband investments in Rep. May Peltola’s hometown. (This would be a good weekend for a town cleanup, right?)
Mrs. Biden dropped in to visit the Alaska Native Health Tribal Health Consortium in Anchorage on her way to the Olympics in July of 202.
FedUp at FedEx
About 80 FedEx pilots walked the line at an informational picket on Wednesday at the Ted Stevens departure gates. Anchorage is the home to more than 500 FedEx pilots and Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport is the nation’s #2 cargo airport. What if they walk?
Legislative notes
The Senate majority press conference on Thursday made it clear that the liberal Senate leadership has no intention of doing a budget conference committee. The time for that has passed, Senate Finance Chair Bert Stedman said.
There are five days left of session and the Senate is sending its budget back to the House, with this brinksmanship take-it-or-leave-it message.
The Senate leadership approach is that the Legislature is a unicameral body and that it doesn’t have to negotiate with the House. This has irritated some in the House majority.
The nuclear option, looking more likely by the hour, is for the House to adjourn and have the governor call everyone back into special session with the budget and Permanent Fund dividend as the main dish, no other bills to distract.
In other Senate news, it passed a permanent boost to the education formula, known as the BSA. That is unlikely to pass the House this year.
I expect that the House majority would have a press conference on Friday or Saturday to respond to the “no negotiations” press conference from the Senate.
Governor reappoints Bethany Marcum to Alaska Redistricting Board
No sooner had the ink dried on the Legislature’s ‘no’ vote on Marcum’s appointment to the Board of Regents, Dunleavy popped her right back onto the redistricting board, which meets on Monday to consider a Supreme Court ruling.
Juneteenth bill passes Senate
It would give State of Alaska workers yet another holiday. The fiscal note on this is deceptive — will cost at least $4 million but likely more. More paid holidays for the elite workforce.

Over a month after the fem-fiasco with the transgender-in-bubblebath influencer, the entire brand is in trouble, with major banks calling it a “hold” stock.
On May 11, 1943, US troops began a two-week battle to retake Attu, which had been occupied by Japan in 1942. The Alaska Natives of Attu were captured by the Japanese and held as prisoners of war.
12 state attorney generals call for crackdowns on gas cooking stoves
First they came for your gas cooking stove, now they’re talking about your dishwasher. The war on the American family continues.
Town hall: CNN pulls plug early after Trump fields an hour of ‘gotcha’ questions
Caitlyn Collins wore a suffragette white suit, sending a not-so-subtle clear signal to women in America that she stands with the women in Congress who wore white during Trump’s State of the Union. You remember Nancy Pelosi ripping up the copy of his speech? Collins had that look. She also had the usual body language.
Question of the Week: Is your money safe in your bank?
Comment of the day
Paul in the Valley, commenting on Hold my beer: “Ms. Heinerscheid literally screwed up advertising BEER! I never thought that would be possible. Before this all came about, all you had to do to get people to drink your beer was open a cooler but Ms Heinei couldn’t even do that. I can imagine all the memes popping up with her applying for advertising jobs, lol.”

Stephen Moore: Saving Alaska from the biggest tax hike in state history
Alaska is America’s Saudi Arabia when it comes to bountiful energy resources, but thanks to Biden’s anti- drilling and anti-mining policies, energy production in the state is way down. This red state is considering the worst possible fix: enacting one of the biggest tax increases ever seen in Juneau.
David Williams: Devastating Alaska’s oil industry won’t help taxpayers
Alaska is at a crossroads. The state is facing a challenging budget situation exacerbated by inflation, Covid, and the Biden Administration’s failed economic policies. Which road it chooses now will determine its economic future. One road leads to renewed prosperity. The other leads to more economic pain for consumers and taxpayers.

Alaska has a credibility problem. We have a habit of attracting investment, especially in our oil and gas sector, and then changing the rules after companies have come and made a commitment, by investing and doing business in our state.

Alaska is going nuts.
What the hell is that family doing now?! Bad to the bone. The left wants to control all of Alaska.
