Assembly approves two more contracts for winter hotel room shelter
The expansion of the homeless hotel industrial complex continues in Anchorage, at the cost of tens of millions of dollars. Taxpayers are now paying $30,000 a year to house each and every homeless person put in a nice hotel room for the winter.
Mat-Su elections start now
With the October local elections in the rearview mirror, there is one more election this fall, and it is for the Mat-Su Borough, where more than 79,000 voters are registered. Update: Old Solid Waste warehouse will be mass care shelter
On Thursday, the Anchorage Assembly, not a moment too soon, approved used of a previous trash facility in Midtown for a place for cots-and-hots for those who just can’t seem to get it together to get into any other kind of shelter for the winter. It needs to be worked on but will open on Monday, as the snow begins to fall in Anchorage.

Update: Teacher stabbed in France
A man of Chechen origin, believed to be a radical Muslim already was under surveillance by the French security services, stabbed a teacher to death at a school and critically wounded two other people in northern France on Friday. The attack is being investigated as potential terrorism.

Two transgenders qualify for upcoming Miss Universe pageant
