Election week in Anchorage
Anchorage is the one place in Alaska where the local elections are in April, rather than October. This year, voters get 15 ballot propositions that will add another $80 million net of debt to taxpayers. A summary of the ballot you will see in your mailbox this week.
Biden gets pushback from lawmakers for infringing on religious freedom
The Department of Health and Social Services wants to force doctors into performing abortions against their conscience — or lose their licenses. Twenty-six lawmakers signed a stern letter of warning.
Breaking: Bank stock trading halted, Biden addresses nation, blames Trump
Stock trading was halted at three banks after their shares cratered in dramatic fashion when the market opened this morning on the East Coast. Biden spoke from the White House and said “U.S. banking is safe.” He blamed Trump for rolling back some bank regulations. It looks skittish at First Republic Bank, Western Alliance, PacWest. The 2-year Treasury yield posted biggest 3-day decline since aftermath of 1987 stock crash.
Lead mushers Redington and Kaiser are less than 100 miles from Nome and the finish line is now set up for the festivities today. Racing conditions are good, and it’s 3 degrees in Nome with light snow.
Will Biden put a poison pill in his approval of the Willow Project?
The White House may say later this week what they’ll do with Alaska. Does that means the feds will give back the money for all the leases it will put on ice?
