Here we are the middle of January! I want to take a moment to thank everyone for helping Must Read Alaska stay alive for another year and be ready to fight the good fight.
If you are reading this version of the Must Read Alaska newsletter, you’re seeing it on Substack, a newsletter platform that many have turned to due to its ease of use. I’m experimenting for now, but may move the newsletter here over the course of a few weeks. It’s going to take some time to learn the format and get 12,500 subscribers moved over.
The legislators get sworn in on Tuesday and there are a ton of activities in Juneau next week, including welcome receptions, parties, and more. I'm taking a pass on all of them, as I have some family duties, so I'll report remotely and get to Juneau in February.
Thank you for sending tips my way at suzanne @ mustreadalaska.com .
Today starts the filing period for Anchorage municipal seats, such as Assembly and School Board. Stay tuned.
There will be a lot more stories on the website this morning and all weekend. See you there, and thanks again for your support!

Breaking: Demboski vs. Bronson comes to a head
This is a real War of the Roses situation and soon they may be swinging from the chandeliers. Amy Demboski, former municipal manager for Anchorage, has retained attorney Scott Kendall and appears to be pursuing a settlement for what she believes was a retaliatory firing by Mayor Dave Bronson. Read more here.
Coordinated attack: Of course, this Kendall rollout was an effort made with the Anchorage Daily News as a fully cooperating ally, evidenced by the fact that the newspaper removed its paywall on the story and had sent their top writing assassin for the job. This will be Bronson's "National Guard scandal" for the ADN to take out the mayor. That is an agenda-driven newspaper.
Anchorage Assembly: Demboski allegations against mayor are ‘shocking’ and it will investigate what it can do
Anchorage Assembly leaders Chair Suzanne LaFrance and Vice Chair Christopher Constant issued a statement regarding the letter the Anchorage Assembly received from Scott Kendall. They are trying to appear reasonable but they are salivating that the Bronson Administration is burning down. Read more here.

Art Chance: I loved every minute of the House struggle over who would get the gavel
My goodness what an uproar the presstitutes made about the election of a Republican Speaker of the House. It was a ”clown show,” chaos, pandemonium, and of course, their standby, a threat to “our” democracy. Read more here.
Fritz Pettyjohn: 40 years of judicial activism on the Alaska Supreme Court, but Dunleavy can just say ‘no’
Dunleavy is the first two-term Republican governor in 44 years, so he doesn’t have to worry about reelection. The leftist lawyers and media can hold their breath, roll on the floor, and turn purple, but he doesn’t have to pay any attention. He doesn’t have to appoint any of these people. He can just say no.
