It’s door-knocking season and fundraiser season for candidates
There are 27 days left until Alaska primary ballots are mailed to absentee by-mail civilian voters.
And we’re 40 days away from Aug. 5, the day absentee in-person, early vote, electronic, and special-needs voting begins.
Saturday is the final day for candidates to withdraw from the primary election.
Greg Magee, undeclared candidate, has withdrawn from the House District 10 race, leaving just two: Former Rep. Chuck Kopp taking on Rep. Craig Johnson. And this brings us to …
Primary’s final-four problem
The new primary system, which yields a “final four” for the general election ballot, has a real problem in Alaska. For the second time, hardly any seats have more than four candidates in the primary.
The only ones with more than four candidate this time are Senate Seats L and R, which have five candidates each, and House District 36, which has six candidates.
All the other legislative races have four or fewer in the race, which means the same candidates on the primary ballot will be on the general election ballot.
All of this is due to Alaska’s 2020’s Ballot Measure 2.
This year’s Ballot Measure 2 would repeal some of the other Ballot Measure 2. It’s bound to be confusing.

Mayor-elect LaFrance not keeping Police Chief Bianca Cross, will name Sean Case as police chief
Anchorage's first female police chief, only at the helm since April, is being cut.
LaFrance has moved into City Hall and fired at least 13 people as she prepares to take over
For some reason, LaFrance opened her transition office right in the building. It’s unheard of but the Assembly has hosted her.
Cooper Landing Emergency Services warns of moose-car injuries
One driver spotted 40 moose near or on the road from Homer to Soldotna. The Peninsula is lousy with moose this year.
“Over the past four days, CLES has responded to a number of vehicle versus moose accidents along the Seward Highway from Turnagain Pass South to Summit Lake. These accidents have resulted in a number of serious injuries. Please be ALERT at all times & especially cautious during the twilight hours (1am-5am) as the moose's dark color is very difficult to visualize during this time and they are extremely unpredictable.”

Friday Fling canceled in Palmer … but Senior Center offers parking lot
The Palmer Chamber of Commerce luncheon is today at the Palmer Depot, and we imagine they’ll be discussing the cancellation of the popular Friday Fling for this Friday and next, due to unsafe drivers in the area during the popular summer event.
“Several situations have occurred surrounding the operation of vehicles within the event area that have endangered both staff and public. We have been unable to mitigate these safety issues as of Friday and the dangerous vehicle activity continues to jeopardize safety. As a result the GPCC Board of Directors made a motion in a Special Meeting on June 23rd to suspend Friday Fling on 6/28 & 7/5. All vendors will be reimbursed for any booth fees associated with the cancellation. We will be working to put together a plan to ensure the safety of the event. We will be reaching out to the City of Palmer and the GPCC.”
The Palmer Senior Center has agreed to open its parking area for food vendors (trucks and pop-ups) free of charge.
“We understand that many of you (vendors) have already ordered food supplies and have hired helpers. We believe there is room for all the food vendors that normally participate in the Fling,” the Senior Center announced.
The Palmer Senior Center is located at 1132 S. Chugach Street in Palmer, directly across from the Palmer Junior Middle School.

The new climate religion explained: In this religion, we have sin (greenhouse gas emissions), judgment (a future where Mother Nature exacts revenge), and penance (decarbonization). Unfortunately, this new religion lacks a salvation plan but offers an elusive path toward “greater harmony with nature.” None of this appears scientific or even logical. In fact, it seems pantheistic.
