Trump seats Dunleavy in front row of his reserved box at convention
Biden has curious case of 'rona, Sen. Sullivan has star-power, and all of that is not the only reason Sen. Murkowski had a bad week

The Republicans had the wind in their sails this week as they seemed like the “normal party,” in comparison to the Democrats, who are in complete disarray. Nancy Pelosi and Barack Obama have publicly turned on Biden, who will probably be pushed out of running for reelection this weekend.
Donald Trump gave the speech of a lifetime. He held forth for over 90 minutes, much of it without a teleprompter. It was classic Trump, but also a Trump who we have not seen before — a Trump who came so close to being extinguished that he is arguably a changed, more reflective person.
Take a look at this photo of Alaska Gov. Mike Dunleavy in the box with Trump, and confidently pointing directly at Alaska Republican Party Chairwoman Carmela Warfield, who took a photo of a moment she will remember forever.
Breaking: Trump the Lionhearted, with a new somber sense of destiny
It’s impossible to summarize a Trump speech like this. He is just such a unique character, but here are some highlights and reactions.
“Tonight, President Trump shared a message that focused on the cornerstones of our nation, and laid out a road map for where we are going as a country with a Trump administration. Liberty. Freedom. Economic growth. Energy dominance. Prosperity. Patriotism. Closing the southern border and restoring safety to our communities. His message was inspirational and directional with a focus on unity as Americans, and a future based on our Republican Party platform. The energy in the Fiserv was electric - we are determined and unified, and the time for our Party is now. It is time to Make Alaska and America Great Again!” said Carmela Warfield, chairwoman of the Alaska Republican Party in a statement shared with MRAK after the speech.
Leftist media reacts: ‘His usual dark view of American decline’
One of our main beats here at Must Read Alaska is the unrepentantly biased media. And so we took a look at all the hot takes by the news organizations that shape the narrative even to this day. They were just as you would suspect.
D is for demoralized Democrats
You just have to read the insane fundraising letter from the demoralized Democrats. They have nothing left but begging.
Hours after Biden tells BET he’ll drop out if he has medical condition, White House says he has Covid
How much of a coincidence is that? You never know these days. Why did no one around him — Secret Service, handlers, drivers — wear a mask if he actually has Covid? Do masks no longer work for Covid???
As we speak, the Democrats are taking down Biden
Trump survived near death, but Biden is facing his political death right now.
The talk is of an open process at the convention to nominate someone else in August, and evidently a letter has already been drafted for Biden to sign. It will continue to be a historic week.
Exclusive interview: Sen. Sullivan says Republican platform is good, enthusiasm high, party is unified for working Americans
A wide-ranging interview with Alaska’s Republican senator on J.D. Vance, national security, and energy security. Sullivan was hoarse from all the media and other interviews from this historic week.
Sullivan asked Secret Service, FBI officials tough questions about assassination attempt. Their answers were vague
Sen. Dan Sullivan was on a Senate phone call briefing with Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle and FBI Director Chris Wray. He was one of the few who was allowed to ask a question or three. His questions were good. Their answers, however, were completely unimpressive.
Congressional investigation widens into attempted assassination
If you think the feds have been less than forthcoming about the attempt on Trump’s life, and if you think the Secret Service is not as sharp as it used to be, you are not alone. There’s now a subpoena for Kimberly Cheatle in Congress.
Sen. Murkowski’s terrible, horrible, no-good, very bad week being a Trump hater
This is a tough week to be Sen. Lisa Murkowski, and not just because she is odd-man out by not being at the convention. She has even more worries.
Working man J.D. Vance promises to fight for America’s working class
The speech by J.D. Vance was just about perfect, erasing doubts about his ability to be vice president.
Trump ally Peter Navarro released from prison, speaks at RNC
Navarro was not shy about blasting the Jan. 6 Committee and the Biden Justice Department for imprisoning him. He came directly from federal prison to speak at the convention.
Federal judge cancels Cook Inlet natural gas leases
Judge Sharon Gleason strikes again. No gas for you in Southcentral. An Obama appointee — and why we can’t have nice things.
Officer-involved shootings require due process, cautions Alaska deputy attorney general
Everyone on the Left wanted police body cams. They screamed for them. Now they demand immediate access to the footage so they can interfere in the investigations in police-involved shootings.
Chris Constant spin cycle
Anchorage Assembly Chairman Chris Constant has an extreme case of Trump derangement syndrome: He posts false information about Trump on social media, implying that Trump doesn’t have a bullet wound on his ear. (The photo of Trump golfing is actually from before he was shot.) Constant got “community noted” on this post. (This is the same guy who on Sunday told people to stop watching the news, after the assassination attempt.)

Question of the week
This day in history
July 19, 1944, Democratic convention opened in Chicago, nominating President Franklin D. Roosevelt.
Columns
Robert Seitz: Maybe we don’t have much climate change happening after all
The author finds that Alaska is not warming at a rate much faster than the rest of the planet, and the claim that it is warming faster is based on data analysis that skews the outcome because of the lack of extreme low temperatures for a few years in Alaska.
Win Gruening: Juneau’s high cost of living persists, so let’s just connect the dots
The Assembly’s predilection for devoting large cash appropriations for projects that voters have rejected is not a sign of fiscal responsibility. Taxes diverted for discretionary projects could otherwise be used for paying down debt or rebating back to taxpayers, thereby lowering property taxes and the overall cost of housing.
Greg Adler: Did government tamper with the official record?
Citizens have very little recourse when it comes to property assessments. The deck is stacked against them. But this???

Every U.S. election is called ‘most historic,’ but this one takes the cake
