Good morning from Somewhere in Alaska!
Body language: Sen. Lisa Murkowski gives the power handshake to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy — a straight-on horizontal, double-hander with a left-side pull, stretching the war president toward her. It’s very much like the handshake that Joe Biden gave Zelenskyy in February, below.
Murkowski abroad
Sen. Lisa Murkowski doesn’t make many foreign statecraft trips. This week she and Democrat Sens. Joe Manchin and Mark Kelly, along with country musician Brad Paisley, went to Ukraine to reinforce the Senate’s bipartisan support for the country. Each had their photo opps with Zelenskyy. Paisley sang “Country Road” and “Same Here” for a crowd in front of a tank in Kyiv.
Murkowski said, “The United States stands with the people of Ukraine on behalf of democracy, and our support for Ukraine is an investment in the free world.”
Making the rounds to Democrat supporters
Meanwhile, Rep. Mary Peltola was stuck in Hawaii due to ash clouds in the flight path home. Strangely, we don’t recall her telling Alaskans she was heading to Hawaii. Instead, she posted a photo of herself on Twitter meeting with constituents in Anchorage, making it look like she was in Alaska.
What in tarnation is going on at Service High?
There is no point in asking the principal of Service — he’s been placed on administrative leave. But there are other educators involved in this unsavory business who are not on leave. What about them? If you have confidential tips about this story, send them to suzanne@mustreadalaska.com.
Salacious, unsavory, and sick text messages implicate administrators and others. The scandal broke out all over on social media. The mainstream media would not report it. The first story.
Principal Allen Wardlaw from his LinkedIn profile.
Service High principal on administrative leave
Apparently, everyone in the school community in Anchorage has copies of text threads that are of concern.
Behaving badly: Service High School edition
We now show you a fraction of the text messages, redacted. These are folks in charge of your students, Anchorage and I had to wade through a lot of gross text messages to find anything close to publishable. Not a good look, ASD.
Garrett Elder struck a deal with Department of Justice
Tycoon Trading victims are furious, and they say DoJ has not even scratched the surface.
Ash causing flight delays
Some delays, some outright cancelations, and Rep. Mary Peltola stuck in paradise.
Flight cancelations expand to Juneau, Deadhorse
The ash is aloft and won’t come down on Alaska, but could snarl travel through today.
Downing: Real marketers of genius don’t hate their customers
Maybe Anheuser-Busch is a good stock buy right now or maybe it’s a go woke, go broke company.

He’s been acting in that capacity since Amy Demboski parted ways with the mayor in December. The question is: Will the Assembly confirm him?
Today in history
April 14: Shortly after 10 p.m. on April 14, 1865, actor and confederate sympathizer John Wilkes Booth entered the presidential box at Ford’s Theatre in Washington, D.C., and fatally shot Republican President Abraham Lincoln. The president was examined by a doctor in the audience and then carried across the street to the Petersen House where he died early the next morning. He was 56.
