Ross Bieling, who ran for state House for South Anchorage several times, has passed after a myocardial infarction. His widow Hope and five children are left behind.

Legislative Ethics Committee hears more on Kurka and Eastman
The Alaska Joint Legislative Ethics Committee meets Wednesday, Nov. 29 at 8:30 am. The committee will formalize the appointment of Tamara Maddox as its new administrator.
The committee will then proceed to a pair of complaints against former Rep. Chris Kurka and current Rep. David Eastman, both Republicans, and will then go into executive session. There is a time set aside for public comments.

H 22-01 has Representative Chris Kurka as the subject
of the complaint. It contains allegations that the
Representative allegedly violated AS24.60.010(2) and
AS 24.60.030(a)(2) by allowing a person to use state
resources for a private benefit.
b. H 22-02 has Representative David Eastman as the
subject of the complaint. It contains allegations that
the Representative allegedly violated AS24.60.010(2)
and AS 24.60.030(a)(2) by allowing a person to use
state resources for a private benefit.

Tamara Maddox, the incoming administrator for the select committee, was appointed in 2022 to be the regulatory and legal affairs manager for the Alaska Oil & Gas Association, and before that was an associate attorney at the Alaska Public Offices Commission.
The former Ethics Committee Administrator Jerry Anderson died in July, after serving the committee since October 2014. Before that, Anderson had served for five years as the assistant director of the Alaska Public Offices Commission. He had served as a magistrate in Kenai and Galena with the Alaska Court System.
