Rep. Peltola votes for Jeffries for speaker
Good morning from Somewhere in Alaska!
Art Chance, colorful columnist at Must Read Alaska, has died
Art wrote for Must Read Alaska since 2016, although less frequently in recent months as his health declined. He was an original, he was a character, he loved history, and he was unforgettable. Many of us will miss him deeply, although the public employee unions will not be sending flowers. Read all about his life here.

Update: Speaker vote on Wednesday still short for Jordan
The second was postponed on Tuesday night, an apparent sign that Jim Jordan may still be short votes. Now, a push is afoot to put Rep. Patrick McHenry, who is speaker pro tem, in as an interim speaker, so business can continue during these tense days.
Defense picks 2,000 troops to prepare for deployment to support Israel
Many of them are already in the Middle East and Europe. They’ll work as advisers and medics, not as combatants.

When the Assembly unilaterally imposed vote by mail on Juneau’s electorate, it was justified as an improvement over traditional voting that would expand voting choices, make it easier to vote, and increase turnout. In fact, it has done just the opposite.
