House calendar for April 1
The House meets at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, giving legislators time to get back to Juneau after the Easter weekend.
HB 155, establishing an Alaska military commission, third reading, final passage. More here.
HJR 7, asking voters if the following of the formula — any formula — for the Permanent Fund dividend should be added to the Alaska Constitution, since lawmakers are not following the law and the courts won’t back it up. Third reading, final passage. More here.
Artificial intelligence
In House Judiciary, a hearing is planned for 10 a.m. on HB 358, prohibiting the use of artificial intelligence to alter the representation of a person with the intent to cause harm. In campaigns, the proposed fine would be a mere rounding error, however. The entire subject is very tricky and the bill may not make it through this year, but it’s a topic everyone is concerned about. It will definitely become an election issue as bad actors are already using A.I. to make politicians appear to say things contrary to their beliefs.
Proposition 8: Will Anchorage voters flush Suzanne LaFrance’s $5 million Portland Loo bond?
LaFrance is in favor of spending $500,000 per souped-up porta-potty. She is running for mayor, so would be the one to implement the potty project.
Watch video: Clark Middle School student savagely attacked by student gang during gym class
This is the second serious incident at Clark in less than a year. The first one needed many police officers to respond. This one, however, would have gone under the radar if not for the person who gave the video to MRAK.
White House declares Easter Sunday as Transgender Day of Visibility
It is the most holy day of the Christian religious cycle. Maybe Joe Biden didn’t remember.
Bidens ban religious themes for White House’s Easter art contest
Only sacrilegious art is acceptable? The Biden really laid an egg on this one.
Murkowski won’t endorse Bronson for mayor, endorses mail-in elections
A very Murkowski moment.
Alaska Gov. Mike Dunleavy endorses Bronson, as Forrest Dunbar endorses LaFrance
Anchorage elections end at 8 p.m. on Tuesday. (Come on, all you lazy voters, get your ballots in or deal with the consequences, and there will be awful consequences.)

On the move
Willford 'Boyuck' Ryan was inducted to Aviation Hall of Fame. Posthumous awards went to Don Sheldon and Gene Zerkle.
Boyuck took the company, now Ryan Air, from a three-plane, two-pilot operation to the largest freight and commuter carrier in the state. Read this profile of him in Alaska Magazine from 2021.
April 4-6: The Anchorage Chamber’s 2024 Alaska Young Professionals Summit. In its slide show from last year’s summit, the group has more photos of Rep. Mary Peltola than anything else. Our guess is she will be there this year, too.
Cruising season is here
The first ship of the season is one week from today: April 8, the Norwegian Bliss will dock in Sitka, and will dock in Ketchikan on April 11.

Question of the week
This day in history
April 1, 1724, Jonathan Swift published "Drapier's Letters," seven pamphlets against privately patented minted copper coinage that Swift saw as inferior and corruptible. Although he was condemned by the Irish Parliament, Swift was later honored by the Irish people for his defiance of British authority.
April 1, 1826, Samuel Morey was issued the first U.S. patent for an internal-combustion engine, which he called a “Gas or Vapour Engine."
