DOJ vs. Trump: Take the survey
A fraction of gun-owning Americans complied with new ATF regulation
Good morning from Somewhere in Alaska!
Colony Days in Palmer was a Norman Rockwell event, with wind. The inflatable slide in the back right of this photograph flipped in the wind but the carnival brought in concrete blocks to tie it down on Saturday. No one launched from the slide.

The Donald Trump saga continues, even though the recent stories about verified UFOs have more cosmic significance. What UFOs? The media doesn’t seem to notice that whistleblowers claim the feds are in possession of parts of an extraterrestrial vehicle.
Tomorrow, we expect Trump in a Miami courtroom with his lawyers to answer to the 37 crimes. This is the weirdest and most historic time — a former president charged under the Espionage Act. It’s a lot of pressure for a guy who is not a spring chicken.
This past weekend, everything the Left threw at Trump fell flat. A He-Yuge crowd of supporters gathered for him at the Georgia Republican Convention in Columbus, Georgia, waiting hours in line before he arrived to speak.
Legislative Ethics committee meets Monday in Anchorage
Two complaints from the House for the committee to consider. It only meets on an as-needed basis and it will be mostly in executive session.
Body of Sitka fishing charter captain retrieved after 11 days
There is still one body missing from the boating disaster off of Sitka. The boat has been found and towed back to Sitka, and the investigation into this strange incident is ongoing.
American refusal: A fraction of gun owners registered pistol stabilizers
The regulation was promulgated in January by fiat, and gun owners with these devices had four months of grace period to register them with the ATF and avoid penalty. Hardly anyone bothered, showing how hard it would be to force gun registration in America.
Thought police: Alaska Democrats support Rep. Gray’s movement to censure those not ‘compassionate’ enough
They spoke the woke: Alaska Democrats applaud the representative who is leading the movement to punish those who are not sufficiently compassionate. (Who are you calling fascist, Democrats?)
Cash back: Oregon Democrats turn over illegal FTX funds to feds, but Alaska Dems give $$$ to crypto crooks
The Sam Bankman-Fried crypto money? The Department of Justice is clawing it back, but the Alaska Democrats are one step ahead of them, giving the cash back to FTX. (Maybe it’s for Sam’s defense fund.)
State Senate Education chairwoman says girls-only team is ‘terrorism’
Sen. Loki Tobin puts the “rage” in Anchorage. She/her says girls should not have their own non-transgender-infiltrated teams or bathrooms. It’s terrorism to exclude trans, she said. Today’s liberals are not your grandpa’s JFKs.
Breaking: Port of Seattle shut down by longshoremen
Longshoremen decided to not dispatch any workers at Alaska’s lifeline on Saturday. It looks like a slowdown at this point, with freight moving like molasses. What will this mean for rural Alaska?
Assembly gives woman $1.6 million; now Rivera wants her off Equal Rights Commission
The strange ways of the Anchorage Assembly, and even stranger are the contortions of the Anchorage Daily News/ProPublica, working so hard to make this about Mayor Bronson, who had nothing to do with the ARPA grant. This was all on the Assembly and Ms. Austin Quinn-Davidson, the 8-month unelected mayor.
Speaking of ProPublica, it’s under fire from conservatives
The New York Post story on the dark money ProPublica uses to report on Republicans is blistering. We are reminded that the ADN is part of that dark-money network.
In Soldotna, public turns out to support girls’ sports
A report from Tim Barto on the State Board of Education meeting on Thursday.
Question of the Week
Thanks from the bottom of my heart to everyone who subscribes to Must Read Alaska. Help spread share the news that balances the left-stream media.
Equity: California will charge for electricity based on income
As the California government cancels natural gas water heaters, furnaces, and cooking stove, it’s also changing how it bills for electric usage. Those who have lots of money will pay more per kilowatt hour than those who don’t.
Ship Creek Group is hiring up
Election season is almost here again. The top Anchorage liberal campaign company is looking for a finance director, deputy finance director, and a digital content producer. This means they expect a lot of clients, as this is about a $300,000 commitment.
Filed for reelection
Recently filing letters of intent to run again were Sen. Matt Claman of Anchorage, Sen. Scott Kawasaki of Fairbanks, and Rep. Cliff Groh of Anchorage.
Filing statement of candidacy: Stephen Wright, a Republican from Wasilla who has run of office before. He has filed for Senate Seat N, now held by Republican Sen. David Wilson.
Shootout in Chefornak
On Saturday, just after midnight, Alaska State Troopers heard from tribal police in the village of Chefornak that they had been shot at by Christopher Wasili, 39, of Chefornak, with a rifle. One office returned fire and shot Wasili with a personally owned handgun. Wasili was taken to the local clinic, died of the wound. Nobody else was injured during the incident. The Alaska Bureau of Investigation launched an investigation.

My weekly column in the national press.
Downing: When Pride Month ends, the Marxist Continuous Revolution will look for new cause
The focus may turn to the Supreme Court’s decision on affirmative action methods used by American universities’ admissions offices.
Rick Whitbeck: Eco extremists keep guessing — and keep getting it wrong
The dire predictions keep coming, and never get here. It would be comical if it were not so damaging to the American economy.
Bob Bird reviews: ‘What is a Woman?’
The writer from the Kenai was pressured by his wife into watching the documentary. He came away impressed at the amazing work of writer-thinker-speaker Matt Walsh in exposing the leftists who repeatedly fall into his trap when simply asked to define what a woman is. They just cannot do it. But his wife can.
David Ignell: To reform Alaska OCS, we must first reform the judiciary
Decades of failures by some legislatures and governors to reform OCS suggest we should redirect our focus to reforming the judiciary branch. After all, laws and policies mean nothing when judges ignore them and get away with it.
Downing: Can we boycott them all?
It’s going to be a long month, so stay out of the stores. More than a few companies deserve the wrath of consumers. Some have just gotten themselves more in the crosshairs than others.
