Shake if off
On March 27, 1964 at 5:36 pm, a 9.2 magnitude earthquake shook the Prince William Sound region. The earthquake started 25 km beneath the surface, with the epicenter about six miles east of the mouth of College Fiord, 56 miles west of Valdez, and 75 miles east of Anchorage.
The quake lasted approximately 4.5 minutes and is still the most powerful recorded earthquake in U.S. history and the second largest earthquake ever recorded, after to the magnitude 9.5 earthquake in Chile in 1960.
The freighter SS Chena had just arrived from Seward and was tied up at the dock in Valdez. About 30 adults and children had gathered on the dock to watch the ship come in when the earthquake struck. Here is the oral history of a mother of a child who was on that pier that day.
If you are along the Alaska coast today at approximately 10:20 a.m., you may hear and or see a tsunami warning, as a test of the tsunami warning system.

Alaska House hard at work but do-nothing Senate
The Alaska Senate meets today but has nothing but citations on its calendar. This is getting to be a pattern as the bipartisan group running the Senate, made up of mostly Democrats, struggles to get anything done this year.
Meanwhile, the Alaska House meets today and has a full calendar:
HB 253, Federally designated refrigerants
SB 93, Fishermen’s Fund; vessel ownership claims
HB 264, Child trafficking, screening
SB 46, Brain Injury Awareness Month
HJR 7, Constitutional amendment, Permanent Fund dividend

Senate rushes rural Internet bill through for Sen. Hoffman, pushing cable over satellite technology
The bill isn’t technology neutral and mucks with the free market, driving up costs for others, while using borrowed U.S. money to pay $20,000 per student for internet.

Interior delegation writes: Fairbanks school board President Brandy Harty should step down

Debt-to-GDP
How out of control is US government spending? Since 1800, 52 countries have had debt-to-GDP above 130%. All but one of those have defaulted on their debt.
The United States has a debt-to-GDP ratio of 124%, up over 20% since 2020. On this trajectory, America will be above the 130% threshold by 2033. Nine years to go.
According to the Congressional Budget Office, debt-to-GDP will hit 150% or more by 2050.
Meanwhile, a $1.2 trillion budget was just passed and there is no debt ceiling.
Biden only option is a reverse mortgage on Alaska?!
Who has filed
Grant Echohawk, nonpartisan, dropped from the House District 1 race for the seat representing Ketchikan. He had only filed a letter of intent last August and had not officially finished filing. That leaves only Rep. Dan Ortiz, also an N.
Jim Arlington has decided that he is running against Sen. Kelly Merrick, a Republican from Eagle River. He is a Democrat who filed but had not designated the seat.
Robyn Niayuq Burke of Barrow has filed to run against Rep. Tom Baker of Kotzebue for House District 40. She is a Democrat, he is a Republican.
Jubilee Underwood has filed to run against Rep. David Eastman of Wasilla. She is a Republican, as is he.
On the move
Ronna McDaniel is out at NBC, after talent staged a rebellion over her hiring as a political analyst. She lasted three days. Maybe better luck at Fox?
RFK Jr. picked Silicon Valley eco-lawyer Nicole Shanahan as his vice presidential running mate. Shanahan is tied to the radical left, George Soros, World Economic Forum, and that probably axes his chances of trying to get Republicans to move his way. He will erode the Democrats from Biden’s camp, however.
RFK Jr is only on the ballot in Utah so far, but with Shanahan’s millions will start adding states. He says he has the signatures for the ballots in GA, AZ, SC, MI, NV, HI, and NH.
