Democrats’ week of grandstanding: Enabling school truancy, advocating for Viagra for bush rats
Democrats had a week of showing what they really stand for. Truancy. Viagra on demand. And even House Minority Leader Cal Schrage complaining that an absent Republican member was faking an illness. What a train wreck.

School districts across country facing layoffs as federal funding windfalls wind down
We tend to think we are special in Alaska. Districts all over the country are struggling due to the federal government’s Covid policies and associated funding running out.
Making the rounds in the Capitol
Planned Parenthood meddles in local Homer Electric Assoc. election
Planned Parenthood of Alaska is getting its fingers in the Homer Electric Association election, actively calling members to vote against, Robert Wall in District 2, Mike Chenault in District 1, and Mike Jones, District 3. So now the electric utilities are seen as breeding grounds for pro-abortion rule-makers.
Alaska Center fiddles in Chugach Electric Association election
The radical Alaska Center has endorsed in the upcoming board election for Chugach Electric Association.
The annual meeting and election is May 17 at ChangePoint Alaska in Anchorage. Two board seats are open for four-year terms in the annual election; voting will begin on April 17. The four candidates running this year were all approved by the CEA Nominating Committee. But the radicals have endorsed incumbents Sam Cason and Mark Wiggin, which means those two have signed a pledge to eliminate fossil fuels and adopt unrealistic Renewable Portfolio Standards, cutting Anchorage’s “carbon intensity” by at least 35% in the next six years.
Eclipse to cut solar power how much?
Some 30 gigawatts of solar energy will be lost Monday due to the total and partial eclipse blocking sunlight from solar fields.
The largest losses in solar electricity generation will be in Texas.
"Because we know about the eclipse ahead of time, utilities have prepared and planned for the lost solar energy," according to the Energy Information Administration.
“The solar eclipse will challenge electricity grids in two ways. First, utility-scale solar generation of 1 megawatt (MW) or greater, much of which is managed by balancing authorities, will have lower solar output along the path of the eclipse. System operators will respond by dispatching other generating resources. Homes and businesses that use small-scale solar will also require more electricity from the grid than usual. Because small-scale solar is not managed by balancing authorities, the increased demand from these homes and businesses will likely appear as an overall power demand increase on the electricity grid rather than a shift from solar power to grid power,” the agency said.
“Second, battery storage is a significant factor in the grid’s response to the eclipse. Battery storage helps balance the electricity system by absorbing excess solar or wind generation when demand is low and then discharging it when demand is high. In the United States, we have 15.4 GW of battery storage. During the last solar eclipse, in 2017, only 0.6 GW of battery storage was operating in the United States.
“Texas will lose the most solar generating capacity because most of the state is in the path that will lose 90%–99% of solar power during the eclipse. Although most of California is in the 40%–59% partial reduction range, the state’s significant use of utility-scale and small-scale solar capacity makes the eclipse’s impact more significant. Florida is noteworthy because when the eclipse occurs, solar generation is likely to be the second-leading energy source on the system and account for about 20% of the state’s total generation
"During the eclipse, electricity generators in the affected areas will have to increase output from other sources of electricity generation to supplement the decrease in solar power."
