Ballots go out in Anchorage rematch
On April 30, the runoff for the election starts in Anchorage, ending May 14. There’s only one question on the ballot: Marxist Mayor LaFrance or Freedom Mayor Bronson. This is a binary choice: Anchorage goes the way or Portland or it stands a chance of recovery. More information is at this link.
Fairbanks Special Election
Early voting began Saturday for the special proposition to blow through the tax cap in Fairbanks. Voting ends May 7. A reminder — the super voters in local, municipal elections are government workers and teachers. More information is at this link.
Eagle River Exit — townhall
The next EaglExit town hall meeting is a little sooner than expected: May 7 from 7 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. at the Chugiak-Eagle River Senior Center. Topic: How the education system would work in a new Eagle River Borough.
“We expect this meeting to last longer than usual as it is a topic our community is passionate about,” organizers said.
Rep. Allard testifies for deaf children, but Rep. Hannan hears that she has somehow been called a bigot
Hannan was trying to bait Allard into saying something on the record so the Democrats could have “tape” to use against her during the election.
What happened to the "birthing persons" mandate at CDC?
A recent report on the low birth rate only blames women, not birthing persons. Apparently the use of “birthing persons” was too much irony even for the CDC, in this context.

Two fall, one dies in Ruth Gorge climbing accident
The woman who died has been identified as a “queer” forest ranger from the Adirondacks, per NPR’s Emily Russell, who for a while broadcast for Alaska Public Media. Later, she was identified as “trans.” It made the front page of the New York Times because of the “trans” angle. The other climber, also apparently some version of various gender and part of the LGBTQ+ climber movement, is Melissa Orzechowski, now in critical condition.

Who has filed
Hezekiah Holland III, or Ky Holland on the ballot, filed to run for House District 9, South Anchorage/Rabbit Creek. He is a registered nonpartisan, which means he will caucus with the Democrats. Republican Laddie Shaw currently serves that district but has not filed for reelection.
Sharon Jackson, former House member for Eagle River, has filed to run against state Sen. Kelly Merrick. Both are Republicans, but Merrick caucuses with the Democrats. Already in the race is Republican Jared Goecker.
