Superior Court judge rules against correspondence schools funding
His decision, if it stands, impacts over 24,000 students in Alaska who are not using government schools for education. The judge made a sweeping ruling — no choice for parents. Democrats celebrated the ruling because “Choice? Yeah … That’s just for ending life of a child.”
Liberal reaction was along the lines of …
House majority reaction
“The Alaska House Majority is deeply concerned with Friday’s court ruling regarding Alaska correspondence schools. The ruling puts in grave jeopardy the education and future of 24,000 Alaskan school children. We are working to address the situation and hopefully secure the future of correspondence schooling going forward. The Alaska House Majority is closely monitoring the situation and in frequent contact with the Governor’s Office and will take steps in the coming days to work with Governor Dunleavy and other Legislators on solutions.”
Today in a Manhattan court: History
The Manhattan criminal trial of former President Donald Trump is set for Monday. Importantly, this is a trial about a sex affair that, if it happened, was not illegal. The prosecution is trying to make an alleged payment to Stormy Daniels to not talk about the affair into an illegal act.
Jury selection begins today and will take days. Importantly, 56% of Manhattan voters are Democrats, 26% Republican. Democrats will dominate this jury.
The $1,000 tax hike on middle class families
A family with three children making at least $42,000 will pay about $950 more in (inflation-adjusted) federal income taxes than they paid in 2018, when the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act went into effect.
Debate rages over tribal sovereignty, Chickaloon policing expansion
An area along a well-traveled road could inch its way into tribal policing authority. Some worry about the camel’s nose.
Alaska Democrats stand by their man, bail on presidential preference poll, go with voice vote conducted mostly by Zoom
Wyoming had only a few hundred participate, but the Alaska Democratic Party won’t reveal how many voted in its caucus, which says a lot.
Survey du jour: Mayor’s runoff
Alaska Survey Research poll results released Friday show Suzanne LaFrance up 11 points against incumbent Anchorage Mayor Dave Bronson: 55-44.
Biden is on verge of locking even more of AK National Petroleum Reserve
The rule says that every five years they can take even more land away from oil and gas leasing.
After days of delay, House fails to allow public to vote on putting Permanent Fund dividend sideboards in Alaska’s Constitution
Sadly, Democrats don’t want Alaskans to decide if they should be subjected to a PFD whim every year.
Compare and contrast: Alaska Senate pension bill peters out
Senate Bill 88 would restart a pension plan for state workers. It seems Democrats and nominal Republicans always end up being champions for more debt. Unfunded debt.
States’ rights: Alaska AG Taylor pushes back on AG Garland’s threat
Garland hinting at federal control … Taylor letter says, step off, dude.
Puget Sound Energy warns it faces significant shortage of power
This is what is happening in Anchorage, too, as environmentalists seek to shut off the power, one policy move at a time.

On the move
Homer is looking for a new city manager, having terminated Rob Dumouchel last month after a four-year tenure.
Who has filed
Denny Wells, D, supported by a host of Democrats, filed for District 15 House, now represents by Rep. Tom McKay, a Republican. Last election, in 2022, Wells came within nine votes. He would join the Democrat caucus.
Alana L. Greear has filed for state House to run against incumbent Rep. Sarah Vance. A teacher who is running as an independent but who is opposed to Gov. Mike Dunleavy’s viewpoint on Senate Bill 140, she says his veto inspired her to run against Vance. Thus, she would be part of the Democrat caucus. Also running for the seat is Republican Dawson Slaughter.
A week of teen violence in Southcentral ends in a death by stabbing
Is it just us, or does it seem like there’s an awful lot of teen violence in Alaska right now?
Chugach Electric Association board election
Voting begins on April 17 for board members for Chugach Electric Association. It’s never been more important, as the environmental warriors and climate cultists continue to attack Alaskans. Incumbent board members up for reelection are part of the climate cult: Mark Wiggin and Sam Cason. Smart, conservative candidates are Todd Lindley and Dan Rogers. The candidate information is here.
Homer Electric Association board election
Surprise: A group called The Mobilization Center, based out of Anchorage, was hired by Cook Inlet Keeper, Planned Parenthood etc to flip the HEA board back to the climate cultists. They are doing get-out-the-vote door to door canvassing on the Peninsula.
The common sense conservative HEA candidates are Robert Wall and Mike Chenault. Election ends May 2. The slate of candidates is here.
Supreme Court goes against crazy fees for building permits
Question: Will this lead to lawsuits for exorbitant fees charged for permits in the past? Were you ever charged an exorbitant government fee?
Jury selection begins Monday in first-ever criminal trial of a former president
Another first for Trump. Remember when he was impeached and tried by the Senate after he was no longer president? Trump derangement syndrome.
Biden eased sanctions on Iran, giving terror-sponsors access to billions in frozen assets
It seems like just yesterday Biden gave Iran access to $80 billion.
