Houses succumb to Mother Nature on the Mendenhall River
Itโs the kind of thing that happens now and then in Juneau, when the water builds up in a gully behind the glacier and then gushes down river. Houses along the river were built more than100 feet back from the bank, but rivers find their own way.
The incident made national news as another harbinger of climate change.

Peltola loses her legislative director
Theyโve kept it on the down low: Elizabeth Othmer lasted three months as legislative director for Rep. Mary Peltola, from January through March. The office has been using Oregon AFL-CIO organizer Anton McParland in three roles: Chief of staff, legislative director, and campaign manager. Peltola is nowhere to be seen this month, but word is she is in Europe.
PLC Mondays: Anchorage students to start an hour later every Monday
As students return to school this month in Anchorage, they will have one hour less of instructional time each week so teachers can take an hour to collaborate.
