Update: Late on Tuesday, Republicans nominated Rep. Mike Johnson of Louisiana for Speaker. He is the fourth GOP lawmaker to be nominated. Voting on floor to begin at noon, Eastern. Johnson received 128 votes in the third round to seal the nomination, but needs 217 on the House floor to win.
Johnson, in his fourth term, is the vice chairman of the House Republican Conference, is a leader on the Judiciary and Armed Services Committees, and serves as a Deputy Whip for House Republicans. He previously served as chairman of the Republican Study Committee, known as the "intellectual arsenal" and the largest caucus of conservatives in Congress. Johnson is a constitutional law attorney.

Oct. 25, 1983, the U.S.-led invasion and liberation of Grenada. A U.S. led invasion called Operation Urgent Fury was triggered by a Marxist coup that had included the murder of Prime Minister Maurice Bishop. President Ronald Reagan called for the liberation of the island from Marxists due to "concerns over the 600 U.S. medical students on the island.” The day is now celebrated on Grenada as a national holiday they call Thanksgiving Day.
