Former three-term Ketchikan City councilman four-term mayor of Ketchikan Bob Weinstein, now a Democrat activist in Portland, Ore. is running for Portland City Council. He served on the staff of Sen. Mark Begich. He appears to be a long-shot in the race.
Raymond Alexie of Kwethluk defended his title in the Bogus Creek 150 sled dog race up the frozen Kuskokwim River from Bethel. Pete Kaiser of Bethel came in second and Darren George of Akiachak took third of the 15 teams that raced.

State DNR issues scientific report on Wrangell landslide
Two rain-induced landslides occurred late in the evening on Nov. 20, 2023, in Wrangell. One of them destroyed three homes, and resulted in six fatalities. A very detailed report on what led to the slides has been issued by the Department of Natural Resources and it’s worth a look because it has implications for other areas in Southeast Alaska that don’t seem like slide zones to the casual observer.
