Good morning from Somewhere in Alaska!
Giving it the sniff test: Meet Sunny, the newest Alaska State Trooper K9 specializing in electronics detection. Sunny is a 2-year-old golden retriever lab mix (isn’t that the best kind?) from Michigan, trained to sniff out electronic devices to aid Alaska State Trooper investigators as they conduct searches.
Operation Underground Railroad, a non-profit dedicated to the elimination of child sexual exploitation and human trafficking, provided the funding for Sunny and her handler training.
Sunny can sniff out thumb drives, flash drives, phones, and more, as investigators dig for evidence of child porn or trafficking. She’s the only dog in the state who know what triphenylphosphine oxide — a chemical used to coat electronic devices — smells like. Learn more about Operation Underground Railroad here.
Memorial Day weekend
I’ll be dialing back my work this weekend, as I have catching up to do with friends and family. While I regret I’ll miss Fred Hosford’s memorial service in Skagway, I may see friends on the Kenai Peninsula this weekend, where you can find me at a lake in Soldotna.
Thank you to all the families who have lost loved ones in wars. This weekend is for you, as we remember our nation’s lost warrior sons and daughters, husbands and wives, and your sacrifices as families of the fallen. We owe our fallen warriors our unending gratitude.
We also remember how in 2020, former Mayor Ethan Berkowitz canceled the Memorial Day Service, which is held outside on the Park Strip, because of Covid. It was none other than community activist Bernadette Wilson who organized the People’s Memorial Day that year, and the event went on, without the mayor or any help from the city, but with many patriots attending. Thank you to all those who keep the flame of liberty lit, even when government become tyrannical.
Watch Must Read Alaska for a list of Memorial Day events taking place around the state, which I’ll get posted later today.
Larry Persily says you should not read Must Read Alaska
“Whatever you do,” cried Brer Rabbit, “Don't throw me into the briar patch!”
The saddle-shoe smartypants who drifts back and forth between government payroll and opinion writing for mainstream media made a point of calling out Must Read Alaska, saying people should not read it. Four male “journalists” on the panel about journalism for Alaska Common Ground gave their hot takes, but Larry Persily beating up a girl blogger was the most sublimely ridiculous. Roll the tape.
(That is a reminder to me to day thanks for reading MRAK. You can defeat the mainstream papacy by sharing this copy with friends.)
Peltola demands ratepayers give reparations to Eklutna Village
Just when you thought clean energy and sustainable energy were the goals … With the flipping of the Chugach Electric Board via the recent election, the war on ratepayers has begun from the top, with the U.S. representative weighing in immediately to get money for Eklutna Village from Anchorage and Mat-Su for water.
Thank you for being a subscriber to Must Read Alaska, and I appreciate everyone who has chipped in to this conservative news project, now in its 8th year because of you.
Former legislator promoted to captain
Rep. Laddie Shaw had the privilege of pinning a new rank on former Rep. David Nelson, who is now Capt. Nelson in the Alaska Army National Guard.
“Captain Nelson exemplifies service to his fellow Alaskans in both his military and his civilian walks of life. And while we miss his good nature, sense of humor, and thoughtfulness in the state legislature, it is good to see that he is continuing to serve all of us in whatever role he takes on,” Shaw said.
Sackett vs EPA: Supreme Court sides with property owners on water rights
Do you remember the couple that wanted to build a home, but were told 13 years ago they could not do so by the EPA? The U.S. Supreme Court handed down a landmark ruling on Thursday that significantly curtails the ability of the Environmental Protection Agency to expand its authority over private property under the Clean Water Act.
Texas becomes ninth state to withdraw from ERIC voter roll organization
On Tuesday, the Texas House of Representatives voted to withdraw the state from the Electronic Registration Information Center (ERIC), a nonprofit organization aimed at identifying duplicate voter registrations and facilitating the cleansing of voter rolls.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis launches
His launch on Twitter was so well attended it literally broke Twitter. The Left and Donald Trump had a field day with that.
Odd man: Veterans’ group to organize in support of Alaska open primary
The group is a false front for Alaskans For Better Elections and a national group trying to keep Ballot Measure 2 from being tossed by voters. This is so strange, as they are trying to organize veterans in Eagle River. And their front man is a gay rights activist.
Assemblywoman on ‘medical leave’ is actually going to Europe
Meg Zaletel has not been transparent about her six-week leave from the Assembly and her job at the Anchorage Coalition to End Homelessness. She told the public one thing — making it sound like she is ill, when she’s leaving the country.
Target, Bud Light, now North Face? Transgender and drag queen marketing leading to stocks slipping
Evidently Pride Month is now taking over May as well as June. The consumers are not amused.
Nordstrom closes two stores in downtown San Francisco
The company is closing 15 stores in Canada and the USA, but the only stores closing in the USA are in San Francisco. The others are in Canada.
Question of the Week
Thanks from the bottom of my heart to everyone who subscribes to Must Read Alaska. Help spread share the news that balances the left-stream media.
