Yikes! The MRAK website was broken on Monday and many readers reported that links from the newsletter didn’t work. It was a good half day before it was restored. The cause? A software upgrade at Must Read Alaska’s hosting company that did not go as planned. Monday’s newsletter is here, for those who missed it.
All of the newsletters since January are archived at this link.

Several hundred students in Mat-Su walk out in protest of conservative school board
They want the school board to stop taking highly controversial pornography out of school libraries and they want the student representative position on the school board reinstated. Who put them up to it? It’s all part of the election going on in the Valley that has the attention of the Alaska Democratic Party and its operatives who are targeting Board members Ole Larson and Kathy McCollum, who are up for reelection and who are opposed by liberals. The election ends Nov. 7.

Alaska liberty group sues Biden for access to secret communications
When it comes to all of the oil and gas shutdowns in Alaska, who was making those decisions? Where is the paper trail? Americans for Prosperity Foundation wants to know, but the Biden Administration is blocking the release of the documents.
I appreciate all of the generous Alaskans who keep this conservative project going!

This day in history
Nov. 1, 1947, a retail sales tax took effect at Sitka, the first in Alaska. It was 4% until the 1990s, but voters increased it to 5% after the pulp mill shut down in 1993 and the city lost revenue. It was briefly raised to include a seasonal 6% tax, but that has since expired and the all-year-long rate is back at 5% as of July, 2023.
