Tucker Carlson's big reveal
Valdez Fly-In, and what libelous lie did a Juneau legislator lob this week?
Good morning from Somewhere in Alaska!
The historic and exhilarating Valdez Fly-in is this weekend. The return of the STOL competition (short takeoff and landing) and the Valdez Air Show will take place in one spectacular community, which still has a few snow berms around. All the info and how to attend is at the Valdez Fly-in web page at this link.
Legislative notes
All of this changes by the minute during the last week: The Senate is running out the clock, bullying the House into going along with its budget proposals. But the House majority has seemed to figure out there is nothing really in it for them, since all they want is a complete fiscal plan.
The House majority was in caucus for most of the day on Tuesday and seem to be resolute. Efforts the Senate made to try co-opt the House minority seem to have fallen flat. They all want to get out of Juneau next Tuesday, but the House majority may hold out for at least part of a fiscal plan — like a spending cap or PFD structure.
‘We’re back,’ says Tucker Carlson. He means business with Elon Musk
Carlson is walking away from the $25 million golden handcuffs at Fox News, which would sideline him for two years. He hints at big plans for the free-speech platform of Twitter.
Democrat legislators attack and lie about Board of Regents nominee
Sen. Jesse Kiehl went so far as to say that Bethany Marcum once told him she was “just a mom.” For the record, everyone knows that she has never been a mom. And she, a longtime member of the military, does not cry when she doesn’t get her way. If he will lie about those things, what else did he lie about?

This bill will attract a certain type of student from out of state to Alaska’s university system. They’re the type of students who would make good Alaskans.
Electric bikes get a help from legislators
They won’t be regulated like motorcycles, yet they do assist pedaling up to 28 mph and be used on sidewalks and multi-use trails. Hope for the best, but keep your eyes peeled for fast moving objects that are going to come at you closer than they appear.
Seward voters vote against sale of utility to Homer Electric
In the vote against selling Seward Electric, there was just a seven vote difference. Last year the city council decided to sell the utility for $25 million, but the voters in Seward are divided, with many not wanting to go with Homer Electric. Chugach Electric was not the winning bid last year.

Comment of the day
Ronald, commenting on to whom UAF conferred honorary degrees: “Good will and money. UAF confers these non-meritorious and unearned degrees simply to get more donor money to the school. Many of the honored don’t even have a high school diploma.”

Seeing challenges from other summer wood-bat leagues, as well as concerns by college coaches about pitch counts and playing time, the ABL decided to hire Chip Dill. (He looks a bit like Kevin Costner, if we’re honest.)
